Walls and Pavements

There is an abundance of nature that lies hidden and not-so-hidden on our bricked and cemented walls and pavements! These charismatic and quirky species are a great source of joy and curiosity, once you begin to explore these surfaces. From spiders and bagworm moths to ants, wasps, assassin bugs, creepers, and peeking fig saplings, our walls and pavements are home to so many beautiful fauna and flora.

Take this activity sheet with you to explore the walls and pavements around or within your homes, schools, or streets and observe, marvel, and document what creatures you come across!

Educator's Note:
This resource has 3 activities and is excellent for allowing self-directed exploration and developing observation skills in older students/adults. It can be adapted for younger students with adult assistance or adapt it to a simplified version. Plan ahead and allow the audience to explore a large patch of walls, pavements, fences and footpaths within/around the school, or allow students to take this activity home and explore areas that are safe and accessible to them.
