There Is Nothing There
Nature Classrooms’ nature learning book ‘There’s Nothing There!’ follows Arali and her Amma’s journey from her school to their home, and everything that they see (or maybe don’t) in between - and you will get a chance to join them in these delightful journeys! This visually stunning bilingual book was inspired by the younglings and teachers of Tarabanahalli Govt. School, in peri urban Bangalore who embarked on adventures to explore nature in and around their school grounds and local neighbourhoods.
‘There’s Nothing There!’ finds its roots in the conversations and interactions during our two year collaborative Suttha Muttha project with the Fig Tree Learning Center supported by The Bangalore Sustainability Forum. The Nature Classrooms team and Fig Tree's dedicated educators (Jane, Sarojini, and Gousia), illustrator and designer Karunya Bhaskar joined hands, weaving together the little and not-so-little interactions and shared experiences of nature that they came across along with the students and teachers from government schools in Silvepura Village, Bengaluru's vibrant and rapidly changing peri-urban landscape.
Based on our trials with the schools we work with, we are in the process of compiling various nature activity ideas that can compliment the story book and also be used by teachers in and around their classroom and school spaces. Look out for these on our website! If you use this book with your students and would like to share your nature activity ideas with us please get in touch - we would love to trial them out as well!
